General Info

Tucked inside Yonge Sheppard Centre, The Islands Caribbean Cookshop - Yonge Sheppard Centre at 4841 Yonge St unit 205, North York, ON offers a vibrant taste of the Caribbean that instantly stands out among nearby dining spots. From the moment you step in, the inviting aroma of spices and grilled meats gives you a clear idea of what’s waiting on the menu-bold, comforting, and full of character.

One of the first things I noticed while browsing the menu was how focused yet satisfying the selection is. The Jerk & BBQ Chicken with Rice is easily a highlight. The chicken comes out tender, smoky, and perfectly seasoned, with that signature jerk kick balanced by the sweetness of BBQ glaze. Paired with rice, it feels like a complete, hearty meal that keeps you coming back for another bite. On the side, the Coco Bread is a must-try-soft, slightly sweet, and ideal for soaking up all those flavorful juices.

If you’re into seafood, the Medium Escoveitch King Fish delivers a different but equally memorable experience. It’s tangy, lightly spicy, and topped with pickled vegetables that add a refreshing crunch. It’s one of those dishes that feels both comforting and exciting at the same time, showing off the diversity of Caribbean cooking.

Beyond the food, the services here make everything even more convenient. Whether you’re dining in or planning ahead, the onsite services run smoothly, and the wheelchair accessible parking lot makes access easy for everyone. On busy days, the no-contact delivery option is a lifesaver, especially when you’re craving something flavorful at home. They also offer catering, which is great if you’re looking to bring something unique to gatherings or office events. And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t skip dessert-it’s a simple but satisfying way to wrap up your meal.

From a reviewer’s perspective, what makes this place stand out isn’t just the food-it’s the consistency and the overall experience. The location is convenient, the menu is thoughtfully curated, and the dishes deliver exactly what they promise. Reviews from visitors often echo the same sentiment: reliable flavors, generous portions, and a welcoming vibe that keeps people coming back.

What customers say?

“ I had this tonight for dinner after hemming and hawing for literally years lol. I wish i tried them sooner. I ordered the small mixed? Chicken meal and tried their fried chicken and jerk chicken. I got plain rice with chicken curry gravy and a side salad. The fried chicken was great! So well seasoned and delicious. Nice crunchy skin too! The jerk chicken was beautiful. It was smoky and well seasoned too. I am in love. Everything was flavorful and delicious. Next time, i need to try their house made scotch bonnet pepper sauce and oxtail! The portions are big. I had leftovers! The server was really friendly and helpful. Its shocking to me that small businesses now charge less than fast food. If u guys r ever in the neighborhood, they r right next to popeyes. Eat here instead!! ”

“ Pleasantly surprised to have stumbled across some good jerk chicken (had oxtail gravy on the rice) and wow they do it good here. During the week they have a jerk 9.99 lunch special (I believe) and it is definitely good to resolve your cravings with just enough food imo. Comes with coleslaw or maybe that was an option either way it was a decent coleslaw to go with the meal. Overall pretty good I’ll def run it back when I’m in the area solid 4/5 ”

“ Great food. I’ve been waiting for some good Caribbean cooking in the area. This spot is the best out of the ones in this area. Food is seasoned and spicy enough but not to kick you in the face. Rice is not dry like other places. They aren’t cheap with the sauces. Go for oxtail gravy. Lunch special is $8 all in. I went for the jerk chicken got 2 drums and a small thigh with rice and gravy plus coleslaw. Post COVID. Go support a local small business in this food court. ”

“ I came to this food court to find lunch during work and found this new place. Very well priced and I was interested in something spicy - so The Islands sounded great. The sandwich was perfect so that I don’t stuff myself and can focus at work. The chicken, cole slaw and the sauces were superb. The chicken was soft and crispy (if you can understand that taste) and the sauces were super flavourful. If you can handle spice, I highly recommend the hot sauce even though it is for 50 cents, but I recommend it. Great place for a quick bite for carribean food. ”

“ I wish I could give The Islands Caribbean Cookshop a 10-star rating. Wow! I am absolutely blown away by the quality of food I received today. There are so many nerves that go with ordering from a new Caribbean restaurant. Will the food be flavourful? Spicy enough? Will it taste like authentic Caribbean food? I can confidently say this restaurant exceeded all of my expectations and I am so grateful. I placed a vegetarian order through Uber Eats today - 2 curry potato and chana (chickpeas), 1 vegetarian meal, 2 coco bread and a Tropical Rhythms mango drink. The curry dishes were seasoned so well. Finally, a restaurant that knows how to properly season veggie curry dishes! It had the right amount of spice from the scotch bonnet pepper and I loved to see the pimento seeds swimming in the gravy. The rice and peas were amazing and tasted like authentic rice and peas from the Islands. The coleslaw was fresh, but not too sweet and the coco bread tasted like it came fresh from the oven. I have been highly disappointed with the quality of food I have received from various restaurants across the GTA throughout the pandemic, but Islands Caribbean Cookshop did not disappoint. I will never travel to Scarborough or the West End ever again for Caribbean food. Thank you Islands Caribbean Cookshop. Great food at a great price! And big ups to the chef - you have a customer for life! ”

“ Ordered curried goat, which was a soft as butter and SO well seasoned, with fluffy rice and beans, along with a salad with mango pineapple dressing that was so zesty and refreshing. Washed it down with ginger beer. 10 out 10. Portion size was good value! Will deffo go back... ”

“ The oxtail taste amazing! I’m usually very picky with oxtail but it was juicy, tender, flavourful and the portion size was very generous. Highly recommend ”

“ Great place to grab a jerk chicken lunch special! It was super filling. Will be returning to try the oxtail stew. ”
